Our Response to Covid-19

To ensure the health and safety of our students, their families, and our staff, The Chartwell Center will be following the CDC’s Guidance for Schools, and we will be working closely with local medical experts. We will be adopting the following policies and procedures:

  • Faculty and staff will receive training and information on COVID-19 symptoms, as well as preventive measures.
  • The school will provide all staff with Personal Protective Equipment or PPE.
  • All Chartwell faculty and staff will wear masks and/or face shields. (We will be teaching our students how to use them as well.)
  • All employees are required to take their temperature at the beginning and end of each day.
  • Parents and other family members will not be allowed inside the facility.
  • Upon arrival, a trained staff member will take the temperature of each student and ask parents to confirm that their child or anyone in the household has not been on fever reducing medication in the last 24 hours and does not show symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Students and staff will be required to wash their hands immediately upon entering the building, and hourly throughout the day.
  • We will adopt a staggered schedule for some students to prevent congestion and to allow for social distancing
  • All classrooms will remain separated to reduce the number of children in one area, and to reduce the possibility of viral transmission.
  • Community based instruction and offsite work will require approval from parents and a medical expert.
  • We will not share toys, equipment, etc. between cohorts or classrooms.
  • Staff will disinfect high-touch surfaces, such as door handles, light switches, faucets, toys and games that children play with on an hourly basis.
  • Children and staff who start to experience symptoms of respiratory illness, including a fever of >100.4, cough or runny nose, will be isolated from other children until they can be picked up.
  • During dismissal, staff will escort students to their car.
  • Extra time will be allotted for cleaning classrooms, and custodial services will be increased.
  • We will not be preparing meals on campus, and students will only be allowed to bring bag lunches and snacks that do not require heating.
  • Medical personnel from Ochsner are available for consultation and testing.
